KeymasterHey Tr7h – I’m not interested in a tailstand mod, but I’d love to see pictures of your work.

KeymasterRough, and far from my best work. 100% functional though.

KeymasterMay not be your best work, but miles beyond anything I could do. Very cool!

KeymasterI first noticed it with a Solarforce x2 AA light, which is pretty long, then again with the MD2. The thumb pain doesn’t become as much of an issue with my Surefire E1L and Z68 tailcap because I can “cigar grip” the light; that keeps my thumb straight while pushing the button.
You’re the only other person to admit to having a similar pain, so maybe we’re just nuts? :bounce:

KeymasterWow! nothing more to add here… I personally have the E01, E05 and the LD01. I love them all for many of the reasons already noted above and I always have at least one of them on me. I usually keep the E05 for around the house and when at work, most often I find I have the E01, mainly for the length of battery. With that said, using the LD01 on low, which to be honest covers 90% of my needs, it is still rated for 27hrs of burn time. If I were to rank them as far as MY needs, they would be LD01, E01 and E05. YMMV:cool:

KeymasterI’ve had an EO1 on my keyring now for two years. I tried the EO5, but the noticeable difference in rel world run time was a lot. And I view my little edc lite as a maybe emergncy tool. I like the insane run time of the EO1, and the simple rugged twist mechanism. The EO5 has been demoted to a house flashlight. I have since bought more EO1’s for the better halfs keyring, the daughters keyring, and grand daughters keyring. Simple, effective, enough lite to see your way out of a darkened metro tunnel if need be, and lots of hours of run time.

KeymasterThe AA battery is for scale only. These two flashlights take AAA batteries.

KeymasterCheck these images at full resolution (22mp). The Inka Pen has saved me a few times too. You can write on the back of your hand in an emergency i.e. writing the name of your killer (just kidding around):)
The light on the E01 is the slightest bit purple (similar to black light) but it is fine for normal use. You only notice the ‘purple’ tint on a white wall. I prefer it as it is ‘cool white’ compared to the E05 which has a ‘warm white’ (yellowish) beam. I like the simple twist on and off. I have many super bright flashlights for household and outdoor use (but you will never have them on you 24/7).
Plus for emergency use the long run time is the most important factor and there is plenty enough light to read books or find stuff under furniture. I found two aaa batteries in the bin at work that only got a faint glow in a laser pointer pen. They worked fine in the E01. I like the idea of being able to scavenge batteries from clocks, toys, tv/stereos remote controls. AAA (and AA) batteries can be found in a dozen places in every house and give you unlimited options (in an emergency).
Keychain flashlights are ‘set and forget’ items. You forget they are there until you need light and a lightbulb (literally) appears.
I use my E05 mainly for household use too, where I don’t want to carry a bunch of car keys in my pyjamas. I bought eight E01s so far for my kids and their partners.
Update: I ran my alkaline battery in the E05 until it was dead flat. I then put it into my E01 and had a mild scare (as it didn’t light up for a second). It started the E01 in ‘moon mode’ which isn’t very bright but you could still read a book and it has been glowing for seven hours now until I got bored and put a fresh battery into it.

KeymasterE15 is the only one that makes sense to me. Yeah the e1 and e5 are nice, but they are so much longer than the e15, and the lumens output is pathetic.. might as well just use the flashlight on your phone and avoid the clutter. However the e15 is super bright white, 170 lumens, and will reach far greater distances than expected.

Click to expand…They may not be the brightest but their output isn’t that pathetic. 10 lumens is pretty good when the surrounding is very dark. I had a E01 running 75+ hours straight! D@mn the Fenix E01 is good. It’s cheap, rugged, and runs for many hours.

KeymasterI love my E05’s. I have one in each color. You can’t expect a woman to carry the same color every day.

KeymasterWhat is the best type of battery to use for the E05? I have seen many posts on here and other forums stating different options that people use. Some swear by lithium but some rock alkaline. I have an E05 on the way and I’m curious as to what people who have had it for a while have to say. I don’t have many electronics that use disposable batteries so I’m the opposite of knowledgeable on the topic. Thanks for the help.

KeymasterAnd that’s why this is such an addictive, and sometimes dangerous, interest. Reading reviews and opinions and whatnot is great, but none of it substitutes for personal handling.
