I have used threaded connectors for years (Mostly for their intended purposes)
Sometimes I have used small ones for keyrings and for attaching other equipment.
Like many of you, I now use aircraft control cable rings like the ones sold by CountyComm as well.

It is a problem of course when the threaded barrel nut comes loose by vibration or contact.
If there are no plans to open the barrel on any regular basis the threads can certainly be Loctited in place.
But on my keyrings, I remove, add or change things often enough that I don’t want to have the threads locked but dont want the barrel unscrewing either.
I have found that inserting an O-ring into the bottom of the threads inside the barrel gives some limited traction when the barrel is tightened.
I have some small 3″ long rings that use a trade size 001 O-ring. The cable rings I got from CC use a size 003.
Threaded connector barrels would need something appropriate for their inner thread.
When you tighten the locking barrel closed the O-ring pushes back, putting some back pressure against the threads which helps it stay somewhat tight.
Buna rubber O-rings are easiest to come by and are soft enough to hold the pressure needed. Silicone are better if they aren’t too hard.
Some auto parts suppliers, refrigeration supply houses, etc carry the small size rings.
They can also be ordered in bulk from places like McMaster-Carr or Fastenal.

One, more secure way, that is not permanent is to use shrink tubing over the threaded joint and onto the cable or shank.
If you want to lossen the barrel you have to cut the tubing off and reapply before re-closing.

Traditional methods would include pinching a little point on the last thread which binds the threads when screwing closed.
There is a fine matter in this though between just right and too much/won’t work anymore however.
