So I was looking at the Gerber website, and something caught my eye. They have a new knife called the US1. It has rubberized handles, is only one ounce, 2.6 inch blade, back lock, 420HC steel, is made in the US, and has, get this, a $24 MSRP, around $16 at Chinamart.

Is that value, (From Gerber) or what? There are only a few written reviews, but they are positive. It seems Gerber might start producing some decent value folders, considering that’s the price a five ounce mystery steel Chinese knife from them might cost.

Being they have been known lately for knives that are mediocre to downright dangerous, it looks like they have been stepping their game up. I almost want to get a US1 (and a Gerber Razorfish) to see if they really are improving.

At the very least, some of you might be interested in the US1, for the weight and price alone.

EDIT: Turns out it’s a BG Compact scout, with a different name and handle. The US1 still looks better, and both seem to be great value.
