Good looking vest with pockets

Back in the day all gentlemen used to wear a vest or waistcoat. I think it would be great to find a good looking vest with a full set of extra close-able (button down or zipper) pockets for EDC gear. I’m talking the perfect balance of utility and fashion. Not too much to ask is it? Something that looks respectable worn over a collared shirt as a professional at work but adds some decent pockets for carrying EDC gear. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

It seems like all I see in stores for vests are like this as part of a business suit. You can’t fit much in a vest like this. I’m looking for something a little more rugged with better pockets.

I come across these in the stores too, a puffy insulated jacket. But it’s too insulated for wearing in doors all day and a more sporty look than professional for wearing at my desk.

I’m not looking for fly fishing vests like this either…

This dude looks like one bad  mofo. Still not what I had in mind for wearing at my desk.

For the guy who drives a jeep or rides a Harley into work. Maybe a bit casual for the white collar desk jockey….

Not bad, but still looks a bit like an insulated jacket. Serious pockets though!

A nice casual vest with serious pockets… but is it dressy enough for deskwork?

Not bad… could do some solid EDC with these pockets. … but again looks like the only jacket you’ll be wearing.

Now we’re getting some where. You add two good button down pockets, plus you can easily wear another jacket or sportcoat over this and look great doing it. Men used to wear this kind of thing every day. Is there even a store that sells something like this anymore or is it too “old fashioned”? Why is something like this so  hard to find in stores?

A light vest can be worn under your field jacket which adds another set of serious pockets.
