I’m going to get a TWSBI Mini for my first bottled ink fountain pen and I am seriously torn, going back and forth, trying to choose between an EF and an F nib. Unfortunately I don’t have anywhere local that I can look at them or try them out so I am dependent on the internet for help.
My non FP preferences generally range in the .38 to .5 range for gel and ballpoint pens.
Here are my FP experiences so far (all cartridge use):
Parker 15 – medium nib – way too broad
Lamy Safari – EF nib – too thin and scratchy, disliked it so much that I sold it
Pilot Petit1 – F nib – almost perfect but just a bit too broad, but very smooth
So those of you experienced with TWSBI nibs, do you think I should go with EF or F? I would probably normally lean towards EF, but my Safari EF put me off with how thin and scratchy it was. I want a smooth writer but not one that lays down a broad line. That said, the smoothness factor is more important; I can deal with one (like my Pilot Petit1) that is just a little too broad if it means avoiding scratchiness.
Goulet Pen’s nib nook isn’t very helpful, his example of the TWSBI shows almost no difference at all between the EF and F nibs but I wonder if that demonstration was an exception of some kind.
Thanks everyone!
