KeymasterAfter getting some lube in the mail, I decided it was finally time to lube up my o-rings on my Fenix LD20 and Microstream. I disassembled both lights and gave the threads a good cleaning and then lubed the o-rings. It was the first time that they were ever lubed, so I was really happy when the tail caps screwed in smoothly.
However, I clicked on the LD20 and nothing happened. I figured that the lube made the contacts dirty so I gave them a thorough wipe with q-tips and tissues. I assembled it back together and still nothing. At this point I was pretty worried that I somehow killed a $60 light; so now I’m staring at the light and triple checking the contacts and changing the batteries out. Then I noticed when I shook the light I heard something rattling. I realized that it was the tailcap. Upon closer inspection, I saw that the metal part holding the spring down was unscrewed, so I took my pliers and tried screwing it back in, but all I could feel was the threads grinding. I figured that I wasn’t aligning it properly. This went on for 20 minutes (mind you, this was 2 in the morning), until I realized I had to screw it back on counterclockwise
. Sure enough the light was working again and I could sleep in peace.
There doesn’t seem to be any instructions (in the manual or on the interwebs) on how to remove/reassemble the tail switch on the LD20, so I’d thought I’d share this so no one else spends 20 minutes trying to figure out how to screw the tail switch assembly back in.
