KeymasterHello there,
Thought I’d do a little review on the Hultafors Heavy Duty Knife GK.
I’ve been using it as a gralloching knife for my stalking and so far only put it to use on one fallow but have been impressed so far.
I usually use a stainless Mora / Bahco for my gralloching work so I shall use that as a comparison
So, some thoughts
Weight
The Hultafors is a fair bit heavier than the Bahco weighing in at 121g vs 76g. There are two components to this a) handle size and material and b) blade thickness. I do think the weight of the Hultafors is actually an advantage for my preferencesBlades
Big difference here is the blade material and thickness. The Hultafors is a carbon steel blade which is 3mm thick, the Bahco approximately half the thickness and stainless. I liked the heft of the Hultafors blade and it was a boon going through the fallow’s sternum and how after some use held an edge better than in my experience the Bahco does (also later on sharpening the edge certainly felt keener on the hultafors). I disliked however how it went spotty by the time I got it home. I’ve never had that issue with the Bahco’s stainless blade. With the regards to blade shape I don’t get to hung up on. Found both useable for their intended purpose.Handles
Contrast here again. The Hultafors is longer, thicker and less tapered. The material is a hard plastic and stippled. The Bahco is mainly soft rubber and decidely slimmer and shorter. In use I preferred the Hultafors for weight and how it filled my hand. However will happily use both and find the grip for both even when wet worked very wellSheaths
The reverse story here with the Hultafors sheath being much thinner than the Bahco’s. I’m not sure this is detrimental to integrity or not. Hultafors seems to work fine and at 32g is actually 2g heavier. The other difference is in the belt loop as shown below. (Not tested by myself as I tend to keep them zipped in a pocket). I found retetion nice and positive with both. And one showing the belt loop differences.
Hope this helps people. Please be kind as first knife review.

Scrummy
