Hi!
I know this topic has been discussed, but I haven’t heard anything about this thought so far:
Any opinions about putting the ICE (in case of emergency) contact phone numbers on the wallpaper and / or screensaver of the cellphone?
This would at least bypass the key-lock that many phones have, and would also give access to this data to anyone without digging through your addressbook or fumbling with the user interface of the phone.
For most phones, anyone who pushes a button on the phone can see the wallpaper, thus would have access to these numbers. They wouldn’t be able to actually use the phone and would have to type them into another phone, of course.
Aside from that my personal opinion on ICE is:
1. ICE on electronic devices such as cellphones is not useful for the immediate emergency situation. Wallet cards or the like make more sense here as they are more reliable and much easier to access for helpers.
2. ICE does make sense to enable e.g. hospital staff to call in personal support for you at a later stage.
3. I’d be very careful about what information in general I carry around in a way that is accessible to just anyone. I can’t see a really good solution though, on the one hand you don’t necessarily want e.g. medical data readily accessible, on the other hand not to the wrong person. Tricky one. I would at least not store addresses and maybe not even names as ICE contacts, only cell numbers.
Just my 2 cents…
Cheers,
Matt
