KeymasterYeah, it looks awesome. Unfortunately, the providers they use are awful in reception around here. 🙁
Plus the plan is a minimum $40/mo. I can get it for $25/mo for my needs. Decisions, decisions.September 29, 2025 at 11:13 am #27661admin
KeymasterBest suggestion i would give is get something which is the latest current model but get it when they are launching the next model. You get discount and you would get continued support for atleast another 3 years. Everything now is based on apps, so getting older model means you would not get updates or support. And the OS And app speed will be faster

KeymasterThe 199 US is for the SE locked to a prepaid carrier. AT&T owns Cricket and GoPhone. Only the GoPhone version can be used with AT&T postpaid and other AT&T MVNO’s.
In the past I have been an investor in a prepaid franchise.

KeymasterA while ago, I was at the same point, where you are now. My first smartphone is the 5s and I am still satisfied. If the support is over? I don’t care. It will still do its job, like my iPod touch 1st gen. for more than 10 years right now.

KeymasteriPod Touch 1st Gen?! I thought I was holding title to oldest unit — mine is a 2nd Gen! Kudos!

KeymasterIf you are just looking for a phone to make phone calls and text, I would suggest looking at some of the lower end Android phones rather than an iPhone, you can get some of them for under $100.
The only down side is it won’t be able to integrate your iOS data with it.

KeymasterApple is moving into some new technology that I am not interested in, at least not yet. I recently got myself in a bit of debt getting myself set up with the devices I hope will last me through this period of nothing being offered that I want.
I bought the 6S Plus phone, but I don’t have home wifi and it is my primary source of data. And I do not have a landline or TV either. If I were wanting what you are wanting, I’d probably have bought the SE with the smaller screen. The 6S plus in quite big. I want a regular charge cord and headphone jack. I’m not at all interested in the iPhone 7 or 8, and plan to have my current phone for awhile.
I bought a Mac Air when Best Buy had them on sale and they were being rumored to be discontinued, because I want USB. Apple adapters don’t always work with all formats and devices. Adapters are NOT the real thing. I want USB.
I also have an iPad 4 mini and a 3G Kindle Paperwhite. I really appreciate being able to access the Amazon store through the free 3G signal since I don’t have home wifi.
If you are wanting older tech like a regular headphone jack and less invasive technology like facial recognition, you might want to invest in the latest models that are what you want to have for awhile.
Good luck choosing. I don’t enjoy shopping. I don’t find it exciting to have new stuff. I just want my stuff to WORK.

I use AT&T (month-to-month, smallest possible data plan) and jumped on the $199 iPhone SE 32GB for my wife and me. I purchased it from GoPhone without the plan and it booted up fine with my AT&T SIM. It was a big improvement over our iPhone 5 16GB models that kept topping on storage. The iPhone SE actually has a better processor (though incrementally so) than the iPhone 6 or 6S, without the dreaded “touch disease” that the iPhone 6 and 6S sometimes exhibit.

A phone locked to Cricket will not work with GoPhone or AT&T even though AT&T owns Cricket.
The SE supports more AT&T LTE bands than the 5 or 6.

I’m glad to know that. I would have figured otherwise. Fortunately, I found a good price through GoPhone before I found a good deal through Cricket.garza said: ↑

I knew the processor fell in between a 6S and a 7, but I didn’t know this fact. Thanks for sharing!
The phone bands supported is an important consideration. A friend purchased an unlocked Sprint Samsung phone for use on an AT&T MVNO but the phone does not support the AT&T LTE bands in his market. LTE was one of the reasons he upgraded. -
