KeymasterHi,
Newbie to the edcforums but not to edc’ing here. Mostly I’ve been hanging out at CPF and Bladeforums so far.
I’m currently looking for another Keychain Pen.In the past I’ve already had the Inka Pen and the PicoPen. Both were pretty nice looking, very reliable, etc – but I’ve also managed to lose both. I don’t even remember anymore how the Inka is secured, iirc it just pops in there – while the picopen uses magnets.
Recently I’ve bought a 3-pack of cheapo chinese keychain pens but those just keep rattling apart in my pocket – even after I’ve put hot glue into the threads. So heres my list of needs for a new keychain pen:
– Should be permanently fixed to my keychain – or at least be better secured than the Inka and Pico.
– Decent looks don’t hurt. I don’t need a designer piece, I’d just prefer a pen that doesn’t look as blingy as the china cheapos. The Pico and the Inka looked perfectly alright, by my standards.
– Should use a relatively common refil cardridge – I’d like to be able to still get refills for it in 10 years.
– Being able to write when it rains / on surfaces such as Gorilla tape would be a plus, but not a must.
– Shouldn’t be crazy expensive. I’m thinking not over 50 USD.Heres the list of things I don’t need in my new pen:
– Doesnt need to be able to write in space or in a black hole.
– Doesnt need to be built like a tank – just like a pen.
– Doesnt need to be made from Titanium, Carbon or any other exotic materials.
– Doesnt need to be a designer piece
– Doesnt actually need to be great for writing. I’ll never use it for anything else but as a backup.Heres what I’ve looked at so far and my conclusions – please correct me when im wrong!
– Fisher Space Trekker
Looks like its pretty much the same thing as the Inka?
– Rite in the Rain Tactical Trekker
Ditto?
– TelePen
Looks good but how is it secured and what refills does it take?
– Beta K
Very interesting. Screws in… but it writes with a silver mine? So.. it works like a pencil? Does it have to be sharpened?
I suppose I should forget about writing on Gorilla Tape with this one, but it might still be interesting.
– Valiant Concepts
Expensive, but now we’re getting somewhere.
– The Move
Even more expensive, but looks even better than the Valiant. Uses a even more common cardridge.
Its slightly bigger but thats not a dealbreaker.
Which one u think is more unlikely to accidently push the tip out in the pocket? Thanks!
