I’ve ordered a KeySmart from Burly’s, and I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to put in it, besides my keys. If I end up with an odd number of keys, I’ll have to add a bottle opener or something. Obviously, it would be good if it was black, but KeySmart doesn’t offer that, so I’m thinking of using a Leatherman MT bottle opener.
I just ordered some black keys (no, I don’t like the Black Keys) from KeySmart, but I’m sure that not all key styles are available in black, so some will be the normal silver finish. I also ordered extra screws. When I find out who to go to, I will get them anodized in black. Regular steel can be oxidized, and aluminum has to be anodized to be made black, but stainless steel can’t be oxidized. It has to be anodized. I haven’t found a company yet that will do small orders.
Black, inc., of Oldcastle, Ontario, will do small orders, but they only oxidize steel, or anodize aluminum. They charge $30 per batch, up to about 48 lbs. Over that, they charge by weight. They are not set up to color anodize. I hope they will be soon.
