Leaking batteries in Pentax SLR Camera

My Camera suddenly stopped working, and when I opened the battery compartment, this is what I found:

Should I just clean it off with a soft brush or something? I hope its not a big problem, one of the things I love about this camera is that it takes normal AA batteries.

PS: sorry for the crappy picture, I had to use my girlfriends camera, and the battery on that one is so bad I have to flick the camera on and just shoot before it dies again
