Leather vs Kydex (or other synthetics) for sheaths etc?

I’m sure this question applies mostly to fixed blades, but enough folks here also use a pocket sheath/organizer, etc for their folders.

I personally am more drawn to leather than Kydex. Love the feel, the look, heck — even the smell. I sorta scratch my head about Kydex and assume the best (?) reason to use it for a sheath (etc) is for resistance to mold etc in wet/humid/sweaty situations. Maybe there’s also a cost or ease of DIY fabrication involved? But not really using it myself I realize I may be misunderstanding.

So — which material would you use or recommend and for which reason? Love to hear what y’all have to say.
