KeymasterThis was one of those unexpected acquisitions, totally unplanned as there’s many others on one’s radar to reach for before this kind of tool.
But what a pleasant surprise this has proven to be, indeed :tu:
I was offered this pre-loved and nicely looked after Super Tool 300 EOD as part of a recent trade, with its ~$30 agreed value, I couldn’t pass this one up. I know few here own it too, Metropolicity/Eric being one of them.
What are it’s pros and cons when compared to its civilian brother?Well, you loose a dedicated serrated blade and a file, but gain a blade exchanger with a fine-tooth T-shank saw made of bi-metal for sawing metal. You also gain a C4 punch, made of 410 high-carbon steel.
You also loose standard pliers in place of dedicated detonator cap crimper, replaceable stranded wire cutters and super-thin needlenose pliers.
The rest of the tool is pretty much the same and shared between the non-EOD and EOD models.
Big boy in its full spread:
Side-by-side with standard ST 300:
Super Tool 300 EOD “business end”:
One of the pleasant surprises were super-thin needlenose pliers tips:
Another surprise were replaceable wire cutters made of 154CM steel, instead of 154CM solid wire cutters found on standard ST 300, Surge, Rebar and MUT.
The cutters are razor sharp:
Usual solid wire cutters for comparison:
The main pliers part, while dedicated for cap crimping can be used for other little fiddly tasks too. One of them is if you have a need to squeeze a smaller piece of metal without inflicting usual damage caused by pliers teeth. If you look carefully, both the ‘bed’ in the middle and the tips of two ‘horns’ which hug the cap are made perfectly flat.
Cleaning rod or aux brush adapter:
Needless to say, I am keeping it, if not for its occasional use for those odd tasks a ‘normal’ multi-tool won’t be able to achieve, then for its novelty and coolness factor for sure.
