As a new CCW permit holder, I try to carry as much as possible. But there are times when I’m out that I need to enter a building that does not allow weapons, i.e. banks, municipal buildings, buildings marked “No Weapons Allowed”, etc. I understand there is a second amendment issue that needs to addressed about it, but that aside, the only options are to go home, store your gun and come back or leave your gun in the car.

I’d rather carry as much as legally possible, so the gun stays in the car. That said, I have a couple of questions for the forum:

    1. Those of you leaving your gun in the car, do you leave it loaded? I did this once with my gun in the center console on a very hot day and the gun was hot to the touch. What was more concerning was the rounds were hot too. I now unload the gun before I leave it and carry the loaded magazine with me, (probably a better idea anyway. If it’s stolen, at least someone can’t take it right away and shoot someone. They’ll have to buy rounds and a magazine first.) But is there an issue with hot car temperature and rounds possible going off?
    2. Second, if you do leave your gun, how do you leave it? Locked case, glovebox, cable lock, under the seat, etc.?

    Thanks in advance.
