Media Player and network HDD set up

I used to use a Western Digital Live Hub for watching movies I downloaded. It had a built in 1tb HDD that ended up going up after 1 year so I don’t want to buy another one.

Does anyone know of a decent media player that will play most all media files over my wireless network. I usually download MP4’s or AVI’s but every once in a while I will download a MKV and some media players don’t play nice with them over wireless.

I just want to hook the media player up to my bedroom TV and connect a Hard Drive to my Router. All I need is something that will be able to read and play the files off of the Hard Drive and play them on my TV.
