Ok gang, I’m looking at my first semi custom knife! I’m very close to pulling the trigger on a Jr’s Neckr fixed blade.
Now I have two G10 scaled blades, a Spyderco Persistence, which I love the G10, and a Mtech MT-20-30, which I feel like the G10 is quite crap. Its super smooth and slick, and provides no grip at all It may not be true G10, but clearly my experience varies.
So the question is, what are the true differences between G10 and Micarta, and lifespace and maintenance required of them. I understand that G10 is fiberglass infused with resin, and Micarta is fibers and fabrics infused with resin, and both compressed. Rumor is that micarta will soak up moisture a little bit, but over all is still durable.
The goal is this knife is just a daily carry with limited hiking, I don’t overly abuse my knives, and store them clean and dry. I’m really leaning toward Micarta, to try something different, but I don’t want a nightmare of maintenance.
Thanks guys!
