Here’s a slight enhancement I’ve made to the cut down Mini BIC lighter mod several people have shown on the web, often stored in mini survival tins for emergency fire starting purposes. Just to be clear, this isn’t a lighter for cigarettes, but rather a homemade version of the “Spark-Lite” spark generator, used to ignite tinder when starting a campfire. My version is really tiny and light, about an inch long, or half the size of a Sharpie pen cap:
Here it is next to some other BICs showing how much bulk you save compared to carrying a lighter, even a Mini lighter, making it especially good for micro survival kits or EDC key chain carry:
I made a green and an orange one for emergency fire starting if I get stuck in a survival situation. Here they are on my keys with my stealth razor knife, Mack, and a Maratac AAA flashlight:
They carry their own tinder in the hollow handle, are extremely small and lightweight, operate using just one hand [unlike a firesteel and striker], require almost no skill, have replaceable “flints”, are easy to make, and they’re practically free!
Here’s my video tutorial which shows them in action and describes exactly how to make them:
I usually keep my YouTube video comments section closed, so if anyone has any comments or questions, here’s the place!
