So I’m one of those that likes to have a notebook at hand, or as I often call it, an “analog PDA”. Over the years I’ve been getting smaller and smaller books, the latest one is a Geocaching.com Rite in the Rain micro logbook and I love the size but it’s expensive and it seems a bit of a waste to use that RITR paper for grocery lists and the like.
Last week we were at Dollar Tree and I recalled someone here mentioning that they had Mini Composition Books which I’ve used and liked so made a point to look for them. Found a pack of three books, 50 sheets, 3.25 x 4.5″. For a dollar, that’s hard to beat and should keep me in EDC notepaper for a year or so. But it’s still a little bigger than I’d really like and I’m not quite ready to make my own Mooshi-books.
After mulling it a bit, I realized that what I really wanted was something about half the size. So I grabbed a ruler and a razor knife and cut them in half. The result: Six 50 page 2.25 x 3.25″ notebooks for a dollar.
They even fit in the back slot of my Chums zipper wallet which is near perfect for my use!
The only way I can think to make them better would be to make my own like Mooshi. I’d make them the size of a business card, 2 x 3.5″, graph paper and maybe only 20 or 30 pages to minimize the thickness. So maybe I’ll be making my own eventually but for now, these are great and the price is certainly right.
