My (smallish) quest to take a SAK in an airplane continues. Ryanair (and many other companies) allow blades on their winged crafts, but airport security is still taking our toys. It also means that I’m without my tools when abroad and flying carry on only.
There began my plan to mod a SAK to fly. It doesn’t mean adding wings and a jet engine as an extra tool layer, it means taking away the things that aren’t allowed, possibly substituting them with ones that are allowed.
I checked some website, and corkscrews are allowed and allegedly make it through security safely (as long as they don’t have the little blade used to cut the capsule on won’t bottles). Also allowed are scissors and nail clippers.
My idea is to grind the blade(s) down, maybe into something useful, and dull the can opener and awl since that could be seen as a blade too.
I did a search on the forums, and found nothing of the sort. My apologies if my searching was poor.
If anyone has done such a mod, or even traveled with it successfully, I’d love to hear (well, read) your experiences.
