For sometime I’ve had a 1911 in mind. It is my ideal defensive handgun. Today I had lunch with my gunsmiths and we started laying the ground work.
It will be a 4.25″ (Commander length) .45 ACP.
Caspian slide
Schuemann Hycomp barrel with 2 ports in front of the front sight
Serrated flat top on the slide
SDM Fabricating Novak style sights with a gold bead front sight and serrated rear
Rear of slide serrated to match the sight.
GI style recoil rod with reverse plug for bull barrel.
Tool steel ignition components
EGW or Ed Brown Beavertail grip safety
Ed Brown wide single-sided thumbs safety
25 LPI front strap checkering
Bobtailed rear strap with 25 LPI checkered mainspring housing.
Beveled mag well
All edges beveled
The only detail that is undecided is the frame material. If the Caspian titanium frame can be checkered, then I will go that route, otherwise it will be carbon steel.
I’m going to call some old contacts and see if I can get the carbon steel parts finished in Boron Carbide and the frame will be finished in Cerakote, if it’s titanium.
This gun is a long time in the making.
