My review of the Tanner Goods Natural Bi-Fold Wallet.

I will rate the wallet in 4 areas: Looks, Quality, Craftsmanship, and Performance. Looks will be based on the way the finished wallet looks, feels, handles, etc. Quality will be based on the quality of the materials used. Craftsmanship will be based on how well put together the wallet is, and last but not least, performance. This is how well the item performs, in holding things, fit in my pocket, etc.

    Introduction:

Tanner Goods is a small business out of Portland, Oregon who specialize in leather goods. Everything from them is sourced from the USA, and then crafted together in the USA. This is a big deal to me, as I love and give full support to USA made stuff. They seem to have been around for a while, and they know what they are doing. You can visit their website here: http://www.tannergoods.com/

    The Wallet:

I ordered the wallet as the cheap one I had before hasn’t been “updated” (I call this update my breakthrough into buying expensive cool stuff instead of normal stuff) and was falling apart. After looking through many wallets, not finding one I really liked, I stumbled upon their website. I fell in love with the wallet, and bought it. I loved the fact that you need to wait 2-3 weeks for them to make it. It really lets you connect to the wallet, knowing somebody is building this just for you. It’s really an awesome feeling.

On 1/17/13 the box was here. I happily grabbed it from my front porch, and ran inside like a giddy child. Popped open my Sage 1, cut the tape. Popped it open. It was breathtaking! I expected the wallet to come inside it’s own plastic wrapping, or something similar. Instead it was inside a burlap bag, nestled in it’s little compartment, with a beautiful Tanner Goods logo greeting me. Props on the presentation!

Just to mention, the wallet is more tan in real life than my pictures. From the outside, the wallet looks very simple. That’s because it is simple. And this is the beauty of it. You would think, an expensive wallet must be complicated and special to be worth it, but that’s not the case.

You can see that this wallet is hand made. Slight imperfections, the craftsman’s marks, all give it quiet character. From what I can see, the edges were waxed and sanded so they didn’t catch any corners. I do not see this edges coming apart any time soon.

The 4 front pockets are big enough to fit 2 card each comfortably. I’m sure after breaking it in a 3rd would fit as well. The two inside pockets can fit 3-4 cards inside, along with other items. The money pocket is large enough to hold a good deal of cash in it. Take note the inside is simply the other side of the leather, no lining here. Some may like this, some don’t. Personally, I love the simplicity.

Performance wise, the wallet works beautifully. It holds everything I need it to hold, it isn’t too large or imposing, doesn’t attract unwanted attention, and does all of this with beauty and incredibly craftsmanship. I would recommend this to the everyman, the guy who holds a decent amount of stuff in his wallet, but doesn’t overload it.

Looks: – 8/10 – The simplicity is a double edged sword – most of the time it looks beautiful, but sometimes leaves you wanting for more

Quality: – 10/10 – USA sourced leather, beautifully treated, looks amazing.

Craftsmanship: – 9.5/10 – Craftsmanship is incredible, but nobody is perfect!

Performance: – 9/10 – Wallet does everything it needs to do and then some.

Overall: – 9.5/10 – Overall an awesome wallet for the average guy.

    Thanks for reading!
