Well the other day I snagged a couple of StreamLight Siege Lanterns on sale and instantly was smitten by the general build quality and features they offered but little did I suspect how big a part of my life they would soon become!

The very next day we had severe weather and lost our power,it returned only to be lost again the next day, what an opportunity!

So I used both Siege that I had just purchased and loved them even more.Great diffused light, many hanging options,a really useful red light mode and solid build quality, whats not to love?

Well last night on the way home from work I stopped by another major retailer and bought a UST 30 day lantern, again on a decent sale and returned to my Lair to compare and contrast the UST with the Siege’.

The UST is pretty well built too and the 2 lights in D size are almost exactly the same size and pretty similar in features too but the nod goes to the Streamlight for me UNTIL it got dark outside?

It turns out that the UST is the first Lantern I have tried so far that is a Warm or more Neutral tint and the difference in the house is hardly subtle too!
I was stunned when comparing them side by side as I have not even considered tint when looking at lanterns and assumed I was just going for utility over color performance with lantern choices?

I moved them all over the house to compare in different environments and I still almost can not accept how much more useful the UST seems as a realistic daylight replacement for camping and power outage use!

Add to this that the UST is rated to run the same times and outputs(basically) as the Siege on High and Medium but almost 3 times longer on Low somehow?
I have not had time to see if this is for real yet of course but I have read reviews that say this runtime on low is true and of course the light is named for this feature too!

Again the Streamlights have more and better features unless like me you prefer a warmer more natural light anytime you can have it and the UST seems to easily win there.

    So now what?

    Anyone else compare these directly?
