KeymasterHey gang, got my Spartan Green Book cover today and I’m very pleased with it.
(apologies for the lousy colour matching — I may clean it up, but then again, I may not)
This is the US Army ‘Green Book’, it kicks your Moleskine’s butt and takes it’s lunch money. It also has fountain pen friendly paper and costs about $2 apiece (Edit: they’ve gone up a bit since I last bought any, best price I’m seeing now is $3.53 ea), it’s 5″x 8″ about the same size as a large Moleskine and has a hardcover binding that you can write on.
This is my current notebook option, single pen quiver, it’s decent solution, but only one pen, no extra storage space and nothing to hold the book closed.
This is the “Spartan” along with the optional name tape. It has five good sized pen slots which will take most normal and “plus-size” pens, shown here with a Hinderer Extreme Duty, a Streamlight Stylus Pro 2AAA, and a Rotring 600. Plenty of room for a Preon or a Sharpie as well.
I’m not a LEO, and I’ve never served, so I thought the (optional) name tape was a little poseur-ish once I saw it (thoughts?) I’m going to going with this, slightly sillier, option.
Exposed. I’ll add a mechanical pencil and possibly a stick eraser I think this will do a nice job of emptying my pockets a bit while keeping everything handy.
From the top.
Nice slim pocket runs across the whole back of the cover, genuine YKK zip.
I found it a little ‘jingly’ so I hacked it a little, lost the YKK tab and threaded the (slightly shortened) supplied paracord fob directly through the zip.
The cover has generous tabs to retain the cover.
Retention. Note the generous velcro flap tab, this should help wrangle any scraps of loose paper I tuck between the pages.
Back pocket. I’ll toss in a 6″ engineer’s rule and a few business cards.
I’m very pleased, stiching is rock solid, cover fits the book like a glove and the domestic (Canuckistani) production is a bonus. This is one of their most reasonably priced offerings at $19.00. And, they’re a forum supporter. I’m going to have to go with three thumbs up
.
Cheers, Ted
