KeymasterHere’s my Current EDC. At least for this trip. Maxpedition Sitka. I’m trying to be more disciplined and pack light.

KeymasterYep, like Tromba and Moostapha mentioned that’s a Sitka clone, it’s a great sling bag if you keep it under 15 pounds or so. If you like the design but prefer the more traditional backpack style with two straps, get the Trident.

KeymasterThey’re handy for small things. Also have some NiteIze bungees that I clip on them if I want to compress something like a jacket to the pack.

KeymasterI’ve been on a bag quandary lately. My Edc bag for quite a while was a gr0. Sold it (regretfully) for the 15L Bullet bc my job at the time didn’t require needing a bigger bag than the 15L. Fantastic pack. Bombproof and minimalist. Got a new job that required a bigger pack. Ordered a Camelbak Hawg Military, only to find after ordering a slim clipboard (part of the job) all of the stuff I carried fit in the 15L. Tried it out at work but things were difficult to pull out and in (snug). So I re ordered the Hawg and sold the 15L. Now Goruck has a sale on the GR0’s! Couldn’t ignore the opportunity so I pulled the trigger.
So for now I have the Hawg and GR0 on the way. We’ll see which performs better and will most likely keep one (unless I find purpose on keeping the other). I love the fit, build quality, simplicity, and clam shell opening of the GR0, but I also love the dimensions, versatility, and organization of the Hawg. Oh boy.

KeymasterHas anyone gotten the Vanquest Falconer yet?
I am pretty close to seeing if it is winner or just too complicated for practical use for me.
I am stumped by the odd front pocket design too? Why get rid of the extra organization the older versions offer for that pocket with 2 zippers a few inches apart? I can’t think of any utility at all for that one but I can sure imagine losing things for it too easily.Really though I wonder if the Ladder organizer and Velcro inside is worth the complication and price and why so little Molle on the outside?
Anyone?

KeymasterThe struggle… :rolleyes_revamped: Don’t forget to post some pictures and thoughts of the HAWG when it comes in, I’ve been curious on how that handles and organizes.
I’ve been tempted by that new 34L GR2 they release.. the smaller size with the organization of the GR2 sounds pretty good… Still a little big though.December 16, 2025 at 12:17 pm #134285admin
KeymasterThe struggle is real..lol although I didn’t have that issue in the past..I used to stay (and only owned 1 pack) with one pack for years (North Face pack). But then my life was simpler then with no kids lol though the past few years I’ve been buying then selling bags depending on my duties/purpose at the time. Noticing the pattern of smaller for a bigger pack and vice versa. Maybe it’s wise to have one smaller and larger pack to cover all basis.
I agree with the new gr2. You’re getting a larger more organized pack, the same dimensions as a gr1! I say it doesn’t hurt to try. I believe you can return it if it doesn’t work out. But then again it’s a goruck. Hard to go wrong with a goruck.
I’ll give the Hawg a shot and see how it wears and performs. Though I’ll give it a bit before posting my thoughts. Don’t want to judge too soon. If it has a role in my life or in the near future then I’ll keep both.

KeymasterNice man, sounds good. I’ve found that it’s definitely good to have a smaller and larger pack on hand to switch between depending on occasion or task. Like I sent in my IG message to you, It’s still totally possible to have a couple bags for specific purposes without getting too clutter with redundancy and too many in use. Just cycle through the ones that seem to be in constant rotation and sell/give away the ones that you don’t find yourself using.
I might have just started a new obsession with the Red Oxx stuff… been lurking their website for the past few days now with some items in my cart..

KeymasterAnd I think I may have found a purpose for the Hawg. Get home/emergency bag that will stay in my car. I have a lot of gear spread out in my car. Why not have it all in one place and have the ability to take them all out if need be?
I’ve seen some of the red oxx products. Let me know how they are 🙂

KeymasterI bought a Skytrain a few months ago for travel and it is a really great bag. Made really burly and I especially love the zippers bc even with a heavily loaded bag it is easy to sip closed (both overcoming the contents and getting a good grasp on them). Even as minimal as the layout is it is incredibly well thought out for travel. But for car or plane travel, it is great and makes accessing the contents very easy. Plus the thing is like a black hole for gear in terms of its ability to haul a ton of stuff

Keymaster🙂 How are you getting on with it?

KeymasterNeed to take pics of my GR1, just haven’t had time. This thread has motivated me though.
