I’ve been carrying a couple python clips on my keychain for about 5 months now as a quick detach method for my Mini ML and Leatherman Squirt PS4. The first time around I ordered them direct from TEC, but recently I picked up some more off of Amazon while I was purchasing something unrelated.

The clips I received look a fair bit different than the ones that I originally ordered. The question I have is: did TEC redesign the python clip at some point? Or did I receive a knock off? Below are some pictures of the two: an old one that I’ve been carrying is on the left and the newer one that I just received is on the right.

The most noticeable attributes about the new clips is the fact that they seem chunkier and their edges are much sharper.

My older clips are just smooth all over, while the new one is decidedly more angular and has much sharper edges.

    Gate-side of the older clip:

Gate side of the newer clip:

Look how nearly every edge of the old clip has a smooth radius to it. Granted they’ve been riding around in my pocket for a while, but I have a hard time believing normal wear would creating such a uniform smoothness throughout.

The edges of the new clip are sharp and abrupt.

The older clip is heavier (2.6 grams)

The new clip is just slightly lighter (2.5 grams)

Last but not least, the new clip is only magnetic at the wire gate. The old clip is completely magnetic all over.
So, thoughts? Are they legit? Did TEC do a redesign at some point and I’m simply looking at it? Did they change from steel to aluminium for the body? Or are these fakes?
