Just received my first quality fixed blade, an Esee 5P.
I noted a couple of things when I opened the packaging that I would like to ask about.
– I noted a number of black smudges on the blade and handle. Comes off with a little spit, but wonder what it is. As a handgun guy, my first guess was that it might have had a light film of grease as rust protection (who knows how long a knife might sit before it ships…), and the smudges I saw were just areas that didn’t get wiped off. Am I on the right track?
– the blade’s edge is mostly a silver/light gray color, but other sections of the edge appear dark gray or black. These darker areas are permanent. Have to assume this is a normal appearance for the blade edge, but was curious.
Called Esee, but they are closed till Monday.
If anyone would care to comment, I’d be grateful – trying to expand my knowledge base, which isn’t much outside of SAKs!
TIA~
