KeymasterHi folks, Ive always been facinated with weather and since I live here in North Dakota and the weather varies so much, I’ve been wanting a handheld weather device to keep track of things. I’ve done some searching and havent found much on here relating to them. The ones that I have researched and seem to fit my needs the most are the Brunton ADC Pro, and the Kestral 4000, or 4500. Both have pretty comparable features. The things I want in the device are:
Temp.
Wind speed and wind chill (I wish they would provide wind direction but understand that would be hard to do on a handheld)
Baro. Alt. and Density alt. (since I work on Instruments on B52’s ie. altimeters and A/S ind. it would be nice to have for ref.)
Barometer
Dewpoint
Heat index
water resistant/proof
backlight
small sizeLike I said both seem to have all the features I would need, the Brunton gives a 12hr. forecast in the form of icons, however I dont think thats a big deal, if you are a little knowledgeable about Baro. pressure, and dewpoints and such you can forecast your own weather pretty well. Also the Brunton is smaller about an inch shorter. There is a price difference of about $120 the Kestral is quite abit more. Although the Kestral has many add on options and you dont need a special IR adapter to upload to your CP like the Brunton. I like that the Kestral you can add a wind vane for direction.
Who has experience with these? positive? negative? Any other brand I should look at??
Thanks much,
Matt Rogers
