I plan to buy a Rofis JR20 soon, as I need a new belt-carry flashlight, and the angle-head is a great feature. I carried a Mini-Maglite on my belt for 20 years, but quit when I bought an LED penlight that was 10 times more powerful. I will continue to carry the penlight in my shirt pocket when I get the Rofis for my belt.
What I really want though is for the angle-head that I would clip to my belt or pocket for walking hands free in the dark to have a red LED light. I doubt that Rofis makes a light with a red LED, and Malkoff doesn’t seem to sell red drop-ins. A red filter for the Rofis would be great, but none came up in a search. Zebralight made exactly what I want a few years ago, and discontinued it. BUMMER!!
I know Cree makes red LED drop-ins, and I have two of them for my Surefires. You can tell they are not Surefire lamps. The diodes are not in the center of the reflector. I guess quality control is not a priority at Cree. You get what you pay for.
I plan to buy a Minimus soon, and they come with a red filter. If I’m walking at night, it would be great to have the Minimus on my head with the red filter, and an angle-head with red light on my belt or pocket. Having two lights saves peripheral vision at night. You can see to both sides of you, and light is still in front of you. It’s ideal.
I like red because it wouldn’t alarm animals at night, and doesn’t attract as much human attention.
Any suggestions?
