Reply using @member name

I know how to reply to a post using the reply button and editing the copied posting to reduct redundancy.

I notice some/many are replying simply by indicating @member name. How do I do that? Is there a shortcut? I tried just typing in but this is cumbersome and the member name didn’t come up in a contrasting font as I see from others.

What am I missing?

btw, this is a 2nd draft; part way through the first draft I hit some key and that draft went into oblivion so I hope I’m not double posting!
