I’ve been thinking about buying an Alox Pioneer or Alox Mini Champ and having it disassembled so I can take all the steel pieces to Custom Black in Oldcastle, Ontario, to have them oxidized. I would really like a black oxide SAK. I love this one:
But I don’t have $140 to spend on a knife right now.
Anyway, I do have a few extra Swiss Champs not being used, and one of them has black scales. I’m thinking of sending it off to Toronto to be disassembled and returned to me. I’ll take it to Custom Black for oxidization, then return it to Toronto for reassembly.
It seems that several of you in this forum disassemble your own SAKs, and know a lot more about this than I do, so I’d like to know what you think. Any reason why I shouldn’t do this?
Another idea: How about getting a piece of ebony from an exotic wood supplier, and having someone make me scales for the Swiss Champ? I think there are craftsmen who would do that.
