I’ve posted this as a stand-alone posting but this is the better place to post it.

    Military or 10 Tors?

Dartmoor was on my doorstep and is my old stomping ground (and I miss it terribly).

Not military, although he has served. I think it must be the 10 Tors but can’t swear on it; might just be him and his mates just doing one of their fortnight tours of some wilderness in the UK in prep for one abroad.

I love Dartmoor. Mum was raised in Dartmouth, up by the Castle, and we try to visit when we can.

Sorry for crapy iPhone pisc, but here it is – my personal (me & family) medical kit, which I take on any outdoor trip, ride, walk, hike etc. I keep the stuff in a Trauma Pouch from ITS Tactical (marked with red cross and red tab for easy recognition).

    CONTENT:
    – CELOX
    – Olaes Modular Bandage
    – gloves
    – trauma shears
    – chemical light stick (white) so that I’m never without emergency light
    – bandaids, antibacteria swabs, small burns gel
    – antiallergy steroids for kids (just in case)

I have been experimenting a bit with my lightweight hunting setup. The FR-1 pouch was my last first aid setup and I will probably not carry it when I am just hunting. I will attach it to my GHB and one to my BOB. For hunting all I really need is the OSK “oh :censored: kit” I keep in the cocoon pouch. Minor cuts and stuff will just be sucked up and dealt with when I get back to my jeep.

Cocoon pouch which can be carried by carabiner through the loop and attached to my belt or another bag. It is designed for immediately life threatening wounds that need to be taken care of right then and there. Petroleum gauze for sucking wounds to chest, neck or upper back. Chest needle if tension pneumo develops. Israeli bandage for heavy bleeding and can kind of be used as a tourniquet, as can my belt. Cric kit is something I would only use on family or a good friend, but basically I can give someone an airway in a very extreme emergency. Cric kit is rolled and taped and I don’t want to undo it because it took a little work to get everything sized down to fit in my bag, but it basically has a sterile blade, a cleaning wipe, an NPO to provide temporary airway, and I think a 4×4 – not that it’s going to help much. If this FAK cant fix it, I was probably going to die anyway.

The awesome FR-1 pouch. I love everything about this bag except the $40 price tag. I would have a few more if it were cheaper. Anyway, as you can see I have a number of medical items in this bag, NPO’s, blade, sugar, benadryl, assortment of bandages, israeli bandage, scissors, hand cleaning gel, burn gel. I just put this up in case someone wanted some ideas, but I wont be carrying this with me hunting anymore.

I have a lot of other 1st aid bags and kits but no time to show them all off.

After a run in today with a paper cut and seeing how handy my pocket FAK was, my Fiancee let me put together a purse FAK for her. Her requests were specific, and she stole my newly replaced SAK Classic. 😉

I would recommend blister bandaids, especially if your fiancé where’s heels. It’s one of my most used items in my FAK.

I will certainly suggest it but she’s not a big heels girl. She actually picked out most of her FAK, it was funny since she always gives me a hard time for my EDC. 😉
