KeymasterHi, Hello, Howareya… this is my first post on EDCF. I really wanted to find a spot where enough people had enough gear to hopefully make this comparison for me… I have yet to find where all 3 are compared. I’ve even asked Ares and Ares distributors, but none were able to compare all 3.
I own a 1.5″ Ridid Cobra Duty belt (w/ velcro liner) and love it. The stiffness of the belt is pretty much spot on for my comfort level. It was a great price when I got it. And, it’s high quality.
However – I’ve been looking more an more at the Ares Aegis line of belts. For one, to support another Made In the USA company. But also because of that buckle! And they’ve been running engraved options on those buckles too. To be able to strap on a belt with the ease of a boyscout belt, but with the ability to handle EDC items is awesome!
Now enough with the small talk, here’s my dilema…
I love the SOE belt stiffness. How does it compare to the Aegis Enhanced? And how do both compare to the ‘regular’ Aegis? I know what each say on their respective product pages, but I’m hoping to get actual owners’ opinions. I’ve heard of the Enhanced being “brick wall” stiff, which doesn’t sound too comfortable to a 6′ 240lb guy. but, maybe that’s an internet exaggeration? But, maybe it’s just right, and the ‘regular’ Aegis is flimsier than the SOE? This is why I need some help. I own no other EDC belts but the SOE I mentioned to compare these against. Thanks in advance.
Aegis – composed of 2 layers of proprietary scuba webbing
Aegis Enhanced – composed of 2 layers of scuba webbing, with an added layer of 1.5″ thin colored webbing on the outside.
SOE – 2 layers of resin coated scuba webbing. Lining the inside of the belt with velcro makes it even stiffer. -
