Anyone have or handled a Tatanka yet? I love big blades but retail price of $300, internet prices over $200 for a g10 handled, vg10 steel seems disproportionate. Am I missing something? My carbon fiber, s30v szabo with a 4.6″ blade was about same price. But far better materials.

I had a chance to handle the Tatanka today. You can’t spell Tatanka without tank and it shows.
The knife is almost comically huge. I handled it while at a local knife shop and it was the largest folder in the shop at the time (and they carry almost all of ZT’s lineup). The lock is interesting, but the knife is so big it is awkward as a lockback and almost forces you to use two hands to close it.
I don’t really know what purpose it serves as a knife. It is way too big to be a good edc, and once you are committed to a knife that large, you might as well carry a less cumbersome fixed blade. The handle is really long in order to accommodate that large blade and it just feels odd to me. Spyderco knows their stuff and they wouldn’t make it if it wasn’t going to sell, but it definitely isn’t something I would ever buy.
The fit and finish are typical Spyderco. Which is good. The blade itself looked especially nice.
While I was there I bough a Byrd meadowlark 2 SS for weekend carry. I needed a slim, slightly smaller splinter picker for my days off and the meadowlark seems like it will deliver.
