KeymasterIn my quest for the perfect weekender/carry on/gym bag, I came across the Tactical Tailor Gym Bag. On paper it seemed like a basic bag made in the USA with premium materials at a reasonable price. After scouring the internet looking for reviews and pictures and not coming up with much, I was on the fence on whether I should order. EDC Feva got the best of me and after a 3 week wait for Amazon to restock it, my text alert said ‘Delivered/Front door/Porch.’ Upon receiving my black/grey bag I figured I would write this review so others may not have to sit on the fence as long as i did. So here goes:
My first impression is that it is very lightweight with the 1000d cordura fabric. All of the stitching looks solid and the fabric has no defects.
The bag features a dual zipper opening with 550 paracord pull on the top and a full arch zipper opening on the side. The dual opening is secured by a velcro flap at the end to prevent direct rain or unauthorized entrants from opening it easily. My only complaint here is that the hook velcro tends to catch the 550 cord and could cause it to fray over time (I know, minor complaint considering how easy it is to replace) The zippers appear to be ykk #8 inside out (I may be wrong but I am still getting used to all the edc terminology).
The grey is a true grey (not wolf or manatee) complemented nicely by the black and I don’t think will show scuffs, dirt, dust as much over time. Gotta love that logo.
The side Boot/Shoe compartment is very deep and capable of comfortably holding a pair of boots or 2 pairs of shoes(my size 10.5US new balance length and width wise). In doing that you will sacrifice your interior space but one pair of shoes and a quick roll of the lining allows the best of both worlds.
The Interior of the bag features a small mesh bungee cinch pouch This allows for smaller goods to be separated from the mix and could hold a small packing cube or other square-shaped container.
The bottom of the bag has approximately 1/8″ flexible padding stitched in and surrounded by 1000d cordura. Besides this the bag is unlined.
The interior has room enough for 2-3 sets of clothes, a nice sized dopp kit, other accessories as well as a pair of shoes in the compartment. In the pictures below I have 2 pairs of 5.11 taclite pro pants, a sweatshirt, a tshirt, a pair of gym shorts, a large blue force gear dapper pouch, a full dopp kit, and a pair of shoes with room to spare.
There was conflicting information on the internet on what was featured on the outside of the bag. Some pictures showed a velcro panel for ID/Patches and others showed an clear windowed ID pocket. Mine came with the window. While it is not my favorite feature on travel bags, there is more to this pocket that meets the eye. It is actually a dual pocket with one slot hidden from view. This can allow for a wallet, keys, or gym ID/currency to be stored out of sight. The velcro opening to the panel is very secure.
As I stated before, all of the stitching on the bag looks good. Although there is no bar tacking on the high stress points of a standard duffel/gym bag, there is double stitching where it is needed and the carry handles and shoulder strap anchor points are strong. I added a Tactical Tailor Shoulder Pad for some added comfort.
The bag shoulders well and balances easily with the flexible padding on the bottom. If you like a more rigid bottom, you could add a sheet of HDPE to the bottom or strategically stack some packing cubes.
Overall I am happy with the purchase. $80-$100 is reasonable considering the features, materials, and it being a berry compliant product. Time will tell how it will hold up to the stresses of overhead bins, sweat, muddy boots, and chlorinated water (swimming bag) but my other TT purchases have held up well so I am confident in this product. Please share your experiences with this bag and pictures if you have other colors. Happy EDCing!
