Throwing knives

I just got a set of cheap Sog Fling throwing knives and I have been trying to get them to stick, granted I am trying to throw them into a giant maple tree in my back yard but i spent an hour yesterday trying and I did not get one to stick. I brought them in cleaned them up and then sharpened them (they were very dull from the start). So whats the trick i am missing, its way way harder than I thought, I though I would go out in the yard and just a=start nailing the tree with them, but I literally did not gt a single one to stick. Help!!
