Titanium Lighter (housing) found! Pictures and review inside

So, if you’ve seen this thread, or this thread, you know I’d been looking for a titanium EDC (not “emergency” or “survival”) lighter for quite a while. I ended up with a titanium zippo, and despite what I’m going to share today, I don’t regret it.

However, I am pleased that I have now discovered an alternative for the rest of you titanioholics out there, who don’t wan’t to pay a ridiculous price for a titanium zippo. That’s right, you can pay a slightly less ridiculous price for a titanium zippo housing!

I found a reference to Carson War Armor on another forum (don’t remember which, sorry) and eventually hunted down this item on ali express. Apparently links to that site have not been whitelisted, so search for “titanium lighter armor”. I purchased mine from “Xi’an Stah Titanium Co., Ltd.”

I have no way of knowing if this is the legit item, or a knock off, but the edc section of the wararmor page is /richangxiedai/ Unfortunately, I don’t know how to order from them. Based on the quality of the item I received, my guess is that it is legit, but I have no real way of knowing.

After some comparison shopping, and investigation of similar offerings elsewhere on aliexpress, I decided to buy one, and I’m VERY happy with the result. Here are some pictures of it next to the zippo.

The box.

This item does not come with lighter internals, but is designed as a direct replacement for the classic zippos, and also supports the butane lighter insert I use in my own (“thunderbird”).

As you can see. It’s much more robust. The walls are considerably thicker, and it weighs noticeably more than the zippo. It features a recessed hinge, and a lip with an o-ring seal around the edge, to reduce fuel loss. It has the same form factor as a zippo, but certainly not the same feel. If you want a zippo, to do tricks, or for a lightweight lighter, this is not for you.

It’s really fantastic. This is the stonewashed model offered by the link above, but it makes me want to buy a sandblasted one and a beadblasted one too. Besides finishes, there are some other designs I’d love to see, but I don’t want to push my luck by buying anything that’s not marked “carson war armor” at this point. I just found out they sell “themed” lighter armor made from what looks like brass as well. The Constantine one looks awesome.

The machining quality seems very high. It is very nearly seamless, and the only “issue” I had was a tiny bit of surplus metal on the hinge pin holes. I removed it with a small file, which left it slightly shiny, but now it’s perfectly smooth.

There may be some other aliexpress stores selling the same items, but I chose this guy based on number and quality of feedback he’d received, and I received my item quickly and with no problems.

I hope this helps some of you guys that are searching for the perfect lighter, because I think I’ve found mine.
