Using heat shrink tubing near plastic?

I am upgrading the zipper pulls on my backpack with GITD paracord and heat shrink tubing. I’m glad I realized how much weight I was carrying around in the form of metal zipper pulls, I weighed them out at 4oz, after I clipped them off. >.<

So, the zipper teeth on my backpack are plastic, while the ‘mechanism’ part of the zipper is metal. Assuming I want zipper pulls only 1.5″ in length or so, is there a way to keep the heatgun from melting the zipper teeth while it’s busy shrinking the tubing?
