Quite by accident, I got a Bantam. I’m not particularly excited by it, but I was able to experiment a bit with the combo tool.
The combo tool works well enough. It opens cans, it opens bottles, and it’s a serviceable screwdriver. The thing it doesn’t do well that the traditional cap lifter + can opener pair does is handle phillips head screws. Which got me thinking: instead of dedicating an entire layer to “openers” on the Tinker/Spartan/whatever, they could use a combo tool on one side and the in-line phillips screwdriver (like the Explorer has) on the other.
Is this as good an idea as I think it is? Or am I giving up some significant benefit of the traditional “opener” layer that Victorinox has used all these years?
