KeymasterThe day started with a Monster, and ends with my first 6309 Diver! I went wandering pawn shops at lunch and brought home a new friend.

As best as I can tell the watch is all original. The band is an extra long Z22. The date calculator suggests June of 1981. Over all I am very pleased!

What do you mean by “The date calculator suggests June of 1981”? Nice score by the way. Is it also known as the “Sumo”?December 15, 2025 at 9:36 am #131748admin
Keymaster… Is it also known as the “Sumo”?

Cheapo Invicta some would say. However, this quartz watch is very reliable.
I really like Invictas. They are built with the same movements as Seikos, Casios, Rolexs and many other high end watches. They have Miyota, Isa, ETA, Selitta, Ronda and other quality movements in both quartz and mechanical types. I think you can get a lemon in any product, but all my Invictas are good, solid timepieces. They are as accurate as most any other watch of their type. For the money, you can’t beat Invicta. I have 20+ in both automatic and quartz…you can say that I believe in the brand.December 15, 2025 at 9:42 am #131817admin
KeymasterInvicta once used to be a respected brand. A very long time ago when it was a genuine swiss-made brand. Those days are long gone. Invicta gets practically zero respect among watch enthusiasts / collectors. And I don’t mean the snobby guys who can easily drop as much on a new watch or a brand new Bentley, depending on which they’re in the mood for that particular day. Even among those who collect “affordables” or inexpensive watches. Numerous reasons for that.
Ridiculously deceptive pricing. A $2,000 Invicta reduced by 40% means that after the rebate, you’ll easily end up paying double what the watch is actually worth. But hey, folks will tell everyone about the great deal they got since they have no clue they got screwed over and in reality horribly overpaid for a cheap watch.
Customer service. Biggest issue, there isn’t any. Good luck down the road.
Mostly cheap quality watches. Yeah, a few models made with Seiko movements inside. The vast majority are cheap Chinese movements. Including the quartz ones. You can get a decent quartz movement by itself for literally $5. And if you honestly believe that Invicta has automatic movements inside their watches as good as Rolex … Ask an independent watchmaker who makes a living servicing various movements in different watches, what he thinks about both.
And finally, the biggest reason why Invicta gets practically zero respect is the fact they just make stuff up! I actually enjoy listening to the sheer fairy tales on ShopNBC and the Home Shopping Channel whenever they are hawking Invicta watches. Just all the colorful lies about Invicta’s non-existent contributions to horology, how terrible other competing brands are, how Invicta does this, how it does that … The lies not only border on fraud, but smash right into it.
Honestly, buy what you like. But be aware of what you’re getting and what type of company you’re getting it from. Especially if it’s a $200 watch priced at $1,000 and then sold for half off. You’re not getting a sweet 50% discount. You’re overpaying by more than twice what it’s worth. It’s amazing the number of individuals who come to the biggest watch forum on the web (watchuseek.com) after having bought an Invicta, wanting to know more about watches in general, and then being truly shocked that not even the guys who collect inexpensive watches have practically any respect for Invicta.
