My birthday gift this year (shame I had to buy it myself). This is a 40mm Hamilton Khaki Field Officer Mechanical. Slightly older version, there is something fantastic about the all-matte case, the just enough markings (including the outer minute chapter, and inner 24), and the visceral pleasure of a hand-wind. Really a just-enough, watch-as-utility piece. I’ve got a custom strap on it’s way (likely followed by a second), but something about the Orange Heavy Duty Nato just felt right on the day.

This one again guys – gotta love the affordable Seiko SKX007…This is the “J4” model, which comes with a factory oyster bracelet…I’m very impressed with the bracelet’s quality.Note: It was pouring – that’s why the watch is wet 🙂

Hamiltons are a passion of mine, so here are a few general guidelines that I’m certain won’t hit me up against the forum dealspotting rules:
The first thing you want to decide is if you want an Authorized Dealer, or are ok with Grey Market — this goes for watch purchases other than just
Pros/Cons of an AD:
–a true Manufacturer Warranty (1-2 years typically)
–a guarantee of authenticity
–easy to find — just make sure the shop is mentioned as an AD on the watch brand’s site
–will be able to handle special orders
–price will likely be higher
–may have a limited or stingy return policy (esp. for special orders)Pros/Cons of Grey
–harder to find one you can be sure to trust
–warranty will be handled through them/third party (but will likely be equivalent, and sometimes even longer than an AD warranty)
–won’t generally handle special orders, but often give access to New Old Stock or Dead Stock models that are otherwise no longer made/hard to find
–often have much better return policies
–price likely lowerI buy from both according to whom has what I am looking for 1st and price second. For Hamiltons from an AD you should be able to get a discount around 30% (though almost never above) off of MSRP — brand new and LE models excepted. The Grey sometimes above that, and, when they are running a special, sometimes way above that (45%ish on occasion).
That particular watch is no longer made in that form (40mm, hand wind, black face) so you’d be looking Grey. Though there are currently an Autos that come close at 38, 40,or 42mm — though none of them have the full matte case.
