Ways to reduce Zippo evaporation?

So I’ve recently started carrying a zippo again, they’re charming and old-timey and I like them a lot for it. But they sure are leaky things.

I was wondering how effective actions like greasing the outside of the insert, or keeping a wide di piece of bike inner tube over the hinge are at reducing evaporation of fuel?

Are there any good ways to deal with this problem? I assume even little things like keeping it away from your body heat will slow the rate of evaporation.

Or does it even really matter? Do I just have to accept it as something that will need regular maintenance – just like my fountain pens which I check periodically.

One day, one day when the GAS is strong, I shall buy a Douglas Field Lighter. That will be a glorious day.
