KeymasterDid you have an iPhone 4 before? How do they compare?
I’m mobile, baby! 🙂

I had an iPhone 3GS, so it’s night and day. That thing is so light, it’s almost unsafe to handle. By that I mean I always feel I’m about to drop it. My daughter has a 4, and with my case, it is the same thickness as hers naked. For the short time I have used it, the battery seems to hold longer than my 3GS. The screen (retina) is phenomenal and better than the 4S. The extra length is nice, but I would have increased the width by a few 8ths. The extra row of icons is useful, but then again not entirely necessary. The 5 seems more responsive and processes command faster (SOTP testing here). iOS6 is similar to iOS5 with some bonuses that I have yet to play with. Videos on that thing look amazing. The big online thing about maps is a minor deal for me. I did prefer Google, but for punctual use, the map system is enough. If I want a real GPS, I use a real GPS…The charge cable has a new plug (lightning) it is about half the size of a USB connector and can be plugged in any direction. contrary to the 30 pin that was unidirectional. Yes it’s a pisser, but an adapter is coming mid-October so all my previous cables and gizmos are still good, and a small price to pay for the iPhone Diet.
The camera has great resolution and the flash is OK for its intended use. Again, if I want quality pics, I use a DSLR…
I know SIRI has seen some upgrade like integration with the map app, but I haven’t played with it yet. One drawback is that some Apps I bought for the 3 GS and that were compatible with the 4S are not entirely responsive. According to what I have read, it will take some times for the Apps to “upgrade” to iOS6 but it was the same when iOS5 came around. So, if it wasn’t for the fact that my previous phone was a 3GS whose support was about to be terminated, I might not have gone to the 5. I did intentionally skipped the 4 series. Since I could do the iOS upgrade, and IMHO this is the important part, I didn’t see a need to upgrade then.
Hope this helpsSeptember 24, 2025 at 6:54 am #21307admin
