KeymasterThanks to edjo069 I ordered the RT system software for my particular radio (UV-82L) should have it Tuesday or Wednesday this week. The software looks very similar to CHIRP and hopefully it’ll work to program the radio. Otherwise I’m sending it back (Software that is.) I’ll see here in a few days!

KeymasterI use it on all my radios (including a few Baofengs) and I have never had an issue, ever, you will love it!

KeymasterChirp is not the problem.
Getting the cable and the drivers going is.
If your Windows will not see the cable correctly no software change will fix that. The cables are highly variable and the drivers need to match the cable you are trying to use.Like I have said repeatedly and found myself too there is good help on the Mikor site that explains exactly how to get it working but you need to understand the options and then follow the instructions.
Hope you make some progress.

KeymasterI got mine YES:bounce:. How was the Baofeng programming, heard it is rough?

KeymasterI was successful programming a Baofeng with the cheap cable and chirp ON A MAC, but a lot of four letter words escaped my lips in the process. I think I’m going with the RT systems for my new mobile.

KeymasterEz I heard you, I looked through the chirp program help and nothing worked. Chirp wasn’t the problem, the USB driver is/was the problem. (Guess I got what I paid for @$16) New software & cable haven’t arrived yet, (Maybe tomorrow?) I’m confident it will work. I suspect the software is not in Chinese!

KeymasterWell if not I can get you the cable for under $10 that works with mine so I know the drivers for it are available.
It is a shame that something as mundane as a copied cable not functioning predictably could bring this thing to a halt but I guess the cable cloners need to eat too?
Let me know.September 26, 2025 at 7:53 am #25633admin
KeymasterIts made right here in Colorado, I have been to their shop, right where they make the software, they are great people, all active Hams and they love visitors, they even gave me a hat last time I was there, A+ people and business

KeymasterStonerman33 are you studying for general too? I am looking at getting a mobile as well but have seen people put them in ammo cans I am thinking of going that route.

KeymasterYeah, I’m hoping to knock out tech and general in one session. I went with a mobile so I can set it up in the car or on the go. I don’t have the desk space for a true “base station” right now, but I can probably find a home for this little guy.

KeymasterFor the people that are curious about Baofeng radios, I’ll throw in my two cents. I’m still fairly new to radio (only have the UV-5RE+ and an old Kenwood TM-201A (with a nicely patinaed Astatic D-104 running, as far as I can tell, the original element, which sounds great:cool:) as home base at the moment) but I’ve never had an issue with the Baofeng. I’ve never heard of anyone having huge issues with them either- it seems like a lot of hams are buying them just to see how good a $25 radio can be and leave the encounter impressed with how good this particular $25 radio is. It’s no Yaesu or Icom (I’m not a fan of Kenwood HTs- family bias) but it’s a great first radio or beater in the eyes of many of the hams I’ve talked to. For the money, it’s good stuff.
Ditto with Nagoya antennas. Nowhere near the quality of the high-end brands, but for a dirt cheap rubber duck it works surprisingly well.
