Who has experience with the Doubletap?

So I am once again planning tax time purchases and once again my eyes fall back to the .45 Doubletap derringer. I know they will hurt to shoot, and are a novelty type gun, but does anyone else here have one? Would you buy it again? Would you reccomend it to others?

I watched the first video on their website (the bearded guy) and the most significant shortcoming is that you’re getting two rounds and that’s it. The guy struggled with reloads just standing there, I couldn’t imagine most (if anyone) doing it with adrenaline pumping in enough time to make any kind of a difference in an emergency. He also said the gun beats the heck out of your hand and isn’t something you’ll want to shoot too often. If you don’t want to shoot it, how are you going to practice enough to gain any degree of proficiency?

I think there are lots of better choices in a compact pistol.

I think the old-fashioned two-shot derringer has become obsolete in the modern era where we have so many great compact autos and revolvers.

The one gun type that I think does a really good job in the derringer role is the North American Arms mini revolvers. These are generally smaller, lighter, and more concealable than most derringers but can shoot five times. Ergonomics are generally better than those of the typical derringer and some of them even have very nice sights.

I couldnt even sell the ones we had in the store. I think we finally sold them for a loss on gunbroker

I’ve seen them at the gun shows and I haven’t really been impressed with them. They are just antiquated and outclassed today. If you are looking for a small light pocket gun I think there are better choices. Lots of online dealers are selling lcp’s this week for about $225 and I think that would be a much better defensive option. It’s a smaller caliber but you have more than triple the capacity plus I think the odds are better that you would be able to actually reload the lcp under stress.

I would first like to like know what you find appealing about this product.

I like and concept of a back up gun that doesn’t require a lot of maintenance and care and packs a large round. Also I like novelty type guns.

If you just want a large caliber, novelty type firearm, then the Doubletap seems like a good choice. If you’re looking for something to save your life, then there are better choices.
