KeymasterLinux is the best upgrade most XP systems can hope for. I’m pretty sure I can get Linux to run well on a toaster

KeymasterGoogle the PC Company to see how to get into the bios. Change the bios setting to boot from the CD / DVD drive first. Save the settings and try it.

KeymasterHP 2 in 1 Pavilion and Dell Inspiron 15. Both are running Windows 10. The HP, I haven’t any any issues yet. The Dell, I’ve had BSODs, stilling running those down.
The Dell, I’ve had Ethernet connections issues. Uninstalled the NIC driver and rebooted. I also moved the Ethernet cable from the laptop itself to the docking station. That one is better.
The only reason I upgraded the Dell as soon as I did was due to Thanksgiving, I had the extra time work on it if it went south.
It it wasn’t such a hassle, I’d rather hand wiped the system, the reload it as Windows 10 from the ground up.
Anyone else, I wouldn’t recommend upgrading at this time.

KeymasterThe Dell is F2 at the logo – as soon as you see the logo, start tapping until you get the BIOS menu.
Check your BIOS version, then compare it to the support.dell.com site. You also want to check and see if they have a Windows 10 specific NIC driver listed.

KeymasterAfter trying for a few weeks, I finally got the Dell Support update checker last weekend. I installed all the updates it found. I also checked the mfg website for their driver. Neither one had a Win 10 specific NIC driver.

KeymasterChecking manually is usually better. The drivers posted on the Dell site are vetted against the hardware of the system as a whole; the manufacturer site can be hit or miss in that regard.
You can, if you haven’t already, check the BSOD dump files in the c:\windows\minidump folder against the online interpreter: osronline – not as good as the MS windows debugger, but a lot simpler to use.
