Keymastermac has better software and hardware unless you get a alienware or some other super pc

KeymasterI would hope that you are not attempting to troll this thread… My dislike for trolls borders on a rabid hated.
While Apple does a better job integrating their software and hardware as well as making ascetically pleasing devices that is at a cost of being able to customize both the hardware and software, then there is the premium pricing that is charged for the hardware.
To put it into prospective the following hardware is what I have decided on for my next desktop computer:
– Fractal Design Define R5 Mid Tower Case
– Intel i7 6700K 4.0Ghz (4.2Ghz Boost) processor
– Gigabyte Z170MX Gaming 5 Motherboard
– 32GB DDR4 Kingston Hyper X Ram
– Nvidia GeForce GTX980 Graphics card
– Corsair Hydro Series H100i GTX Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
– Intel 480GB 730 Series SSD (OS Drive)
– 3 x WD 2TB Black Edition HDD (Games, Data, Backup)
– Corsair 750W CS750M ATX Power Supply
– 2 x 27″ IPS Monitors (undecided on make & model)
– Multiple Corsair AF120 Quiet edition case fans
– Astro A40 + MixAmp Pro Gaming Headset
– Ducky DK-9008 Shine 4 Mechanical Keyboard
– Wired Mouse (undecided on make & model)
– Plus other assorted accessoriesI am expecting to spend around NZ$3500 on it.
When compared to a current apple mac pro 6 core which is closest to these specs (but still gets obliterated by them) is starts at NZ$7499 RRP before you add on any displays, keyboard, mouse, extra storage or software.

Keymasternope not trolling i realy do prefer mac I prefer a good laptop to a desktop. I find that pc is better for gaming which I dont do much of. Im loving my pc because of the options but this crashes at least once a day and my mac which was only $100 more diden’t have problems until it got covered in soda. I had a mac pro. soo 1500

KeymasterSo, I haven’t used windows since 2ksp2. I guess I kind of used windows 7 in VMs to watch Netflix on Linux.
But…I would like to say that the least trouble I ever had with a “Mac” was my i7 hackintosh.
Apple hardware is pretty. And, honestly, when you talk about similar build quality and components, performance and price are both right where they should be…except the trashcans. Unfortunately, the whole world is obsessed with thin and light, which means soldered components and excess heat…which means you have to pay apple for some of the upgrades…which is the same with similar PCs, or will be shortly.
Honestly, I don’t see much of a difference anymore.
Nor do I see the advantage of linux. The dorky diy mentality is gone, as is the entire ethos from Unix minimalism to the FSF bazaar.
Computers are the domain of corporations, not dorks.

Keymasteri want my computer to look similar to a tank and glow red but that’s why i build my own pcs. the thin light thing is nice to a point, one of these days tho they are going to make macbooks that blow away in a light breeze

KeymasterTry the latest build of Chrome for Linux, it should be good to go.

KeymasterDid they shove DRM into html5 or implement silverlight in chrome?
September 30, 2025 at 10:21 am #28603admin
KeymasterI’m pretty sure there’s drm handling in html 5 now
September 30, 2025 at 10:21 am #28604admin
KeymasterIt is the HTML5 Encrypted Media Extension (EME) support that has been added to Chrome for Linux, Support for it in Firefox may be coming soon.

Keymasterthanks for the info I thought i had heard about that, but my knowledge in the area of web development and standards is not as great as i would like it to be

KeymasterOk. Cool.
I’ll keep that in mind. It was annoying to have to spin up a VM every time I wanted to watch TV down there. Taught me a good bit, though.

KeymasterBut to answer the OP’s question, I would suggest you go to a store that has demo PC’s and have a play around with Windows 10 and see if you like it.
September 30, 2025 at 10:22 am #28608admin
KeymasterOr run it in a virtualized environment using some program like VirtualBox.
From what I’ve been hearing though I would recommend people start getting familiar with Linux.
