Having a 22LR can never hurt.

Careful though, it’s contagious. Soon you’ll have 2 or 3, then 5 or 6. Good luck!

A .22LR rifle is one of THE ESSENTIAL firearms any good, gun guy should own. Heck, the fun factor alone is sufficient to warrant purchase. I recall going out as a “tween” and leveling off sapplings with a .22LR. Ah, the days gone by. I remember shooting, almost point blank, a skidder tire I found in an engorged creek and my small .22 round ricocheting past my left ear and thinking “Oh schit, I hope dad doesn’t find out.” The idea of getting shot in the head and dying alone in the woods was much down the list of dad finding out I’d done something stupid.

Buying a .22 is definitely worth it… if you can find the ammo…

These are the first .22’s I’ve seen this year.

Bought 2 today myself, plus an extra mag for my son’s Savage Mark II!

my local club has struggled for a couple of years to put on a monthly 3 gun match, using a .22lr for the long gun portion… shown is a very early stage, using Sportsman Team Challenge 2″ and 4″ vertical and horizontal 4″ steel target arrays…. the 2″ targets on the left vertical are pretty challenging…along with reduced size silhouette targets, and shotgun poppers, it was a fun format, but unfortunately we didn’t get the participation we needed…if you have a local club trying something like this… turn out, and make it work

and it gave me an excuse to put a dedicated .22lr barrel on my CMMG conversion

How much would you guys consider to be “enough” .22lr?

I’ve been picking up a brick here and there now and have, now what I would consider to be “enough” for the time being.

Also, is it odd for the Winchester 333 to be shooting better than the CCI Stingers I’ve got on hand? I picked up a thousand rounds of the Winchester ammo as well as a few hundred CCI, and the stingers really tend to hate my gun, while the bulk ammo hasn’t had a single problem with two bricks through the gun. Its a SR22

I’ll attribute the surplus of ammo around me to the strict gun laws here in Mass. Every shop I go in has plenty. If I go up to NH or Maine, its nowhere to be found.

I have not run Stingers through my SR22 but it sure eats everything I have tried and just waits politely for more!
A friend with a Sig Mosquito can only shoot the Stingers through his so of I see any I snag it for him.I love the Ruger and the fact that I have had no ammo snags at all in a few thousand rounds.

I too was buying anything I found in normal prices for a while and think I have more than I could ever use but I also know better that this is not really how it works too!

Love the SR22, just another great little gun from Ruger, coincidentally my son and I put a few magazines through it over the weekend, that gun amazes me every time I shoot it, like said, it will eat anything and ask for more, not to mention, its quit accurate.

As far as how much .22 is enough, as much as you can stock pile without tripping over it. The stuff is like gold around my parts, it got so bad here a couple years ago there was absolutely zero to had at any and all stores. Craigslist sellers where getting $100 a box for bulk 550, crazy stupid stuff. Fortunately I’ve been stock piling for probably 20 years and have run out of ammo storage room at my place. I would say at a minimum 100k rounds would be about right. I was actually able to help out a number of my friends who neglected to stock pile before the panic and sold them plenty at my cost. I say pick up a box or two anytime you see it at a reasonable price.

Even at hyper-inflated prices for ammo, .22 is still the cheapest round to practice with. Everyone should own at least one .22 as it will probably the most used and versatile rifle/pistol in your collection. From practice to putting food in a pot, it is hard to beat a .22.

Just went shooting over the weekend. Still love my Ruger 22/45.

On a side note, I took the Williams firesights off and put the stock ones back on for now and got better. Haven’t been able to focus on fiber sights after my LASIK surgery. Which I find odd, but ohh well.

For the SR22 owners, have you had any issues? I was debating the SR but after shooting my friends MK2, I was hooked. Goofy design and kinda have to become an aficionado to even do a basic cleaning, but I love my mk.

Sadly 9mm is cheaper to shoot than my .22 mag with prices around here. Ridiculous. Haven’t seen .22 mag in over 2 years at Walmart.

SR22 sounds like good fun. Would love to have one. Seen Hickok’s video and it seemed great.

I’m slowly starting to see it back on the shelves. Not often, but occasionally.

I personally have the 10/22 with the AR look, and a Smith and Wesson M&P 22 pistol. Like many have said the 10/22 is very open to upgrades and with so many out there you’ll never be in a hard spot to find parts if needed. That’s what I look at with my gun’s as a consideration… access to parts after :censored:…. Plus ammo is all around. As for my pistol choice it’s because it’s a price effective model that stay’s the same whether you get the 9mm,40 or 45 cal they all fit your hand the same.

    peace
