KeymasterI’m pretty sure I read something about them testing different jhp sd rounds for pistols recently.

KeymasterGreat training guns. I laid back a lot of ammo, so I don’t worry about it. Buy between panics.

We the US did not sign it if I remember correctly, we just chose to be good and use only ball ammo.
Correct, the United States never ratified that declaration. As an aside, most of the “rules” set forth by the Hague conventions were broken by countries that did ratify them, some almost immediately.
While Hague was brought up at the post WW2 tribunals and since then has often been mentioned as how civilized countries wage war it’s really of little use in this day and age and has no legal bearing on what any country does.

KeymasterYes I have a Ruger 22/45 which is a variation of the Mark II with 1911 grip angles it’s a fantastic shooing range pistol and really cheap to shoot for practicing drills, or just general target practice / plinking not expensive at all and a solid timeless dependable and proven design

KeymasterWell I ended up trading my sr22 for a S&W Bodyguard 380, which left me with a final count of (way too many) rounds of .22lr…So I went to the shop today and ended up with a Marlin Model 60 for 75 bucks. Cleaned it out and I’ll test it out this week. Turns out it happens to be one of the few with both the 18rd tube as well as the “last shot” hold open bolt. Lucked out on this one.

KeymasterI have a Marlin 60SS (stainless) with a grey laminate stock, quite accurate. One of my favorite rifles. Haven’t shot it in like 4 years so it just takes up space in the safe. I can reload and shoot 9mm cheaper than .22LR right now. I won’t pay $50 for 500 rounds for .22. Although I have almost 6k rounds of 22 stashed away 🙂
I also have a S&W 22a which is a fun little pistol. A bit temperamental with ammo though as the cheap stuff doesn’t have enough oomph to cycle the slide reliably and I get stovepipes. A Browning Buckmark would be my first choice in a .22 pistol.December 25, 2025 at 4:28 pm #142390admin
KeymasterCanada takes the Hague and Geneva conventions quite seriously. It was drilled into us in training that our asses were in a sling if we ever modified ammo, used non-issue ammo, etc. etc.

Keymasterfifteen years ago, I was still fairly competitive at the state and area level in USPSA single stack.. when I did get a chance to practice, I always tried to end the session with one of these to sharpen my skills at 35+ meters….there was no excuse for not shooting them well

KeymasterI just got a 525 round box of Federal Champion .22lr at a Dicks Sporting Goods for 29 with tax. They had several boxes left 3 days after the sale started. I am in Indiana. It’s becoming pretty easy to find here on a regular basis.

KeymasterI’ve “heard” 22 LR ammo is slowly getting easier to get. I hope so because I just bought a Ruger American Rimfire 22 LR and want to shoot it quite a bit. I could have bought 1400 rounds of Remington Golden Bullet .22 ammo the day I picked up the gun for $80 but didn’t have the money to drop at that point (wish I did!).

KeymasterA .22LR pistol is the best way to learn to shoot well. As it doesn’t induce recoil and noise flinches, ticks, etc., one is able to focus on the mechanics of good shooting. Same with a .22LR rifle. I’ve been lucky that I’ve had at least one .22 pistol and one .22 rifle for nearly 40 years. Accordingly, I’ve been able to accumulate a good bit of ammunition. Now I have thousands of rounds of .22LR and a Taurus revolver, a Browning Challenger III Sporter, a Ruger Mark III Elite Target, a Ruger 10-22 Takdown and a Browning Grade I SA-22 takedown. Each of them is an absolute blast to shoot.

They were terrible in mine and my buddies Ruger MK2 and MK3.

Thanks Fish! I’ve heard the American Rimfire will shoot anything put in it because it’s a bolt action rifle and wonder if the ammo may be bad in others firearms that have semi-automatic actions because they don’t cycle well or something along those lines (maybe the load is weak in the cartridge). I’ve also heard of some cheaper bulk ammo leaving lot of junk in the barrel. Thoughts please? Thanks! -
