I try to stay away from Remington Golden bullet as well. Dirty dirty stuff. Last box I had contained a lot of duds and it gunks up the action on the Marlin 60 fairly quickly. I gave the rest to my nephew for his bolt action 22.

Thanks Fish! I’ve heard the American Rimfire will shoot anything put in it because it’s a bolt action rifle and wonder if the ammo may be bad in others firearms that have semi-automatic actions because they don’t cycle well or something along those lines (maybe the load is weak in the cartridge). I’ve also heard of some cheaper bulk ammo leaving lot of junk in the barrel. Thoughts please? Thanks!
It is a very dirty round, but .22LR is dirty in general for some reason. I shot nothing but CCI mini mags one trip through my 22/45, and then turned around and shot WWB 9MM through my XDm, and my M was cleaner than the 22/45. LOL. Be prepared to clean no matter what, but since you are buying for a bolt action, you arent throwing lead down range as fast, which means you can pay more attention to your loads.

I personally would still stay away though, but that is just me.

How hard are the rounds to find these days?

Down here in Florida (US) there aren’t any issues at all. Walmart generally doesn’t have any, but all the gun shops now 9 out of 10 times have 500rnd bricks for usually 35-40 USD.

I’ve also seen more and more of the “bucket of bullets” popping up on Facebook for sale.

In Mass, I can find it anywhere at this point. I have been buying one 555 brick at the local walmart for $26 each week

With the way 22lr is making a come back I think it’s worth it. I can usually find it here and there where I live. But I can find it pretty regularly and decently priced online. Recently purchased a 1022. Boy did I forget how much fun it is to shoot 22lr. Plus it gives my kids something to learn on.
